Opening of an East Midlands office
Opening of an East Midlands office to pave the path for the expansion of Sterling’s surveying services.
Sterling’s on-going expansion programme highlighted the Eastern part of the UK as an area where new opportunities are developing within the Utility and Engineering markets. The eastern sea board is seeing the constant evolution of wind farms with new connections, a growing need to refurbish the energy network and as a consequence new design requirements are beginning to filter through. This combined with a requirement to provide the same asset surveying services to UKPN, WPD and CE Electric, we saw Loughborough as an ideally suited location for communications links as well as a having access to a highly skilled labour force in the area to support the growth of the surveying division.
Loughborough University itself has a growing capability in the Power Industry with its rapidly growing Electrical Engineering department specialising in; power generation and renewable energy, short-pulse and high-frequency energy systems, electrical power systems and high voltage engineering. It was this that also encouraged the location of the company to start to expand links with the local academia. In September 2011 Sterling Power Group’s newest office in Loughborough received a visit from the local Charnwood MP Nicky Morgan along with MP Daniel Byles, (Member of the Select Committee for Energy and Climate Change,)to welcome Sterling as a new company in the area.
As Sterling develops its growth strategy it is important to continually maintain a flexible approach to the market place and MP Nicky Morgan was suitably impressed by the company’s capabilities and interested that Sterling are establishing a larger footprint in the local area. Nicky was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Cabinet Minister at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. She had previously been elected by her fellow MPs to serve on the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee, but gave up that position following her appointment as a PPS. Seeing Sterling as a developing business and visiting Sterling was extremely interesting to her and she was pleased to see our establishment in Loughborough.
