HEALTH & SAFETY -
AT STERLING SAFETY COMES FIRST

Some of Sterling’s work activities are considered high risk or they are conducted within high risk environments. These include works on High Voltage Distribution Networks and High Pressure and Temperature Steam Systems. At all stages, from planning to delivery - Safety Comes First.

Sterling has a dedicated Health & Safety Department employing safety professionals qualified up to diploma level and chartered safety and health practitioner status. They are continually reviewing and monitoring health & safety performance of the business to identify continual improvements to secure the safety and health of its employees, so they can still successfully operate in the high risk sectors.

We operate a Health & Safety Management System that is accredited to OHSAS 18001 – 2007 by Lloyds Register of Quality Assurance. The standard requirement for continual improvement is matched by the company-wide commitment to the safety and health of its staff and everyone else who may be affected by our works.

Senior management endorse the importance of safety and good health throughout the business. There is a positive safety culture to ensure safety practices are at the forefront of our organisation. The company has a Corporate Safety Steering Group which leads the way with the Safety Comes First ethos.

In addition the company has a team of internal auditors who continually monitor our safety performance and compliance to ensure that safety does really come first in practice. This is in addition to our continual external audit service provided by Lloyds Register of Quality Assurance.

Communication plays a big part in all businesses and is key to our success. A variety of methods are used to ensure that all staff are provided with adequate information and have the opportunity to personally contribute through feedback and ideas to the health and safety culture of the business.

Our workforce actively participates in continuously improving our processes and the decisions we make as a company. We are committed to developing our staff, their competency and being at the forefront of industry practices, all of which is supported by training and innovation.
